Cross Country: Making the most of any winter outing includes packing along the snowshoes; the ONLY way to go off trail by foot in the winter! The entire park is open to snowshoeing and you may follow the cross country ski trails as long as you do not destroy the tracks! Specials and Events: The Midwest's finest Ski slopes are found on the hills above Union Bay, within Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park. Awesome views of Lake Superior, and the ever-changing ice flows, provide a backdrop to slopes divided by virgin stands of hemlock, maple and pine. Over 25 miles of groomed cross-country trails surround the main hill.
